Joint Papillon Clubs Championship Show 18th June 2011 Kelso
I would like to thank the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club of Scotland for inviting me to judge the combined Papillon Clubs Ch. Show which they were responsible for organising this year. It was a great honour to do so and was a particularly enjoyable experience, with lots of lovely dogs to go over. Lovely to hear applause for all the winners and a good crowd staying on for the final top awards.Generally, size seems to be settling to the middle size, with some very nice examples at the smaller end of the standard, having said that the head proportions in some cases are simply wrong - over long, sometimes thick and coarse muzzles do nothing to create the desired sweet expression of the Papillon Head. Eyes seems to be improving with only a few light shades, and most set correctly low in the skull at the stop intersection creating the sweet expression. Movement as always was very mixed and in some cases very poor ,which on a smooth concrete floor can really only be down to poor construction . Generally a high standard in condition and presentation throughout, a most enjoyable show.
